Atta Boy

I was reminded this week of the power of encouragement and the faithfulness of God.

Ever have one of those days, meetings, sermons, where when you left you thought it really stunk? Like no one got anything out of it? Like it was a huge waste of time and if you ever do anything like that again no one will show up and you should probably just quit now and cut your losses?

I never have but some of you may have…just kidding. Happens to me often. I know it is the enemy trying to discourage me and get me to quit. So I have to rely on God’s promises and faithfulness.

Here’s what happens. You have one of those times that you feel like really stunk and then later that night you get an email from someone who was at the meeting and they tell you how God spoke to them and how they can’t wait to come to the next one. Or the next day you get a note in the mail saying that the message was just what they needed to hear and that God is really working in their life and they thank you for being obedient. Or, since you thought the teaching was so elementary and simple that surely no one got anything out of it, someone comes up to you and tells you just how awesome it is to hear the truth communicated in a way that every one can understand and apply. I love that.

So here is the deal. Today, send a note, an email, an e-card, make a phone call, stop by a cubicle, whatever, and encourage someone. Tell them how well you think they are doing and how it is impacting your life. Nothing fancy. Nothing long. Just a quick, “Hey great job on that. I really appreciate you. I am looking forward to what is next.” Or something like that. Not only will that little investment help that person, but you will feel like you have really done something worthwhile…because you have. It could also be God’s way of letting that person know that they are truly doing what He wants them to do. Lots of dividends there.

And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. Hebrews 10:25 NLT
