I was talking with a friend of mine who is not a follower of Christ. He knows that Jesus died on the cross for his sins. He believes He rose from the grave. He knows that Jesus is the answer to all the junk he is going through. However, he is not ready to make Jesus his LORD (Lord just means boss). He is not ready to make that commitment and is still holding on to his own selfish ways (yes that’s what I told him).

He began to tell me that he never wants to do anything half way. He said that in any relationship, (glad he recognizes that we are talking about a relationship with God) in order for the relationship to work, you have to give it all you have. He said that he is not sure he can do that and that he is not sure he can be successful at it. He is afraid that he might mess up and then what? He told me that he was concerned about what might happen if he gave his life to Christ, what would be different and what all the repercussions would be.

So here is the different perspective. I told him he is thinking the wrong way and asking the wrong question. He should be thinking and asking, “What might happen if I don’t give my life to Christ?” I love it when God does that, gives me things like that to say. He gets the glory not me.

So What?

When it comes to your commitment to Christ and the way you live your life, don’t focus on what you think you are missing out on. Focus on what you gain. God truly wants you to experience His Best in your life. So get up, get going, and get in on His Best right now.

1 Corinthians 2:9 NLT
That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.”

I'd hate to see what my life would be without Christ! I mean, I know I mess up things now but to think about messing up things without having God's grace?! That's scary!

  2. Doug

Yeah it is scary. Glad to know I have someone with me all the time. Thanks.

A half truth is still a whole lie. I also believed something to that effect when I didnt want to give up my partying ways. The enemy had me fooled with a half truth which was if I cant go all the way then I dont want to fail @ it but I had been failing constently. The victory was asking Christ into my life. Failure was the womb of success.

  4. Doug

Right on. Funny how knowing and meeting the Truth will set you free.

I just had this conversation with someone last week. I think so many people believe that they have to get their life together and then come to God. What they don't realize is that if they come to Christ first, that HE helps you get rid of all the junk. We aren't immediately perfect, we never will be as long as we are alive on this earth. But it is that pursuit of holiness that God calls us to. We can not do it in our own strength. It is a daily surrender to Him.

I pray your friend doesn't wait too long.

Thanks for praying for my friend. I will pray for you too as you have these conversations. May we always know what God wants us to say and say it the way He wants it said.

I cannot imagine walking this life without that relationship with God knowing that HE is right there with me. The struggles of this life truly would be unbearable without HIS love and mercy and grace. HE is never too busy and always interested. Nothing seems too hard when you have someone to share the load. God is just awesome in that way! Praise HIS name!!

I totally agree. Can't imagine doing life without Him
