UPDATE FROM DOUG | 11.19.20
What a beautiful Fall Season we are experiencing! I thank God for this great weather, the beautiful leaves, and this wonderful time of year.
I want to address a couple of things and update you on how things are going here at Midtowne so that you can be informed and can support your church through prayer and obedience. I want you to know that I appreciate you so much, and love being your Pastor. I am proud to be a part of this church and cannot imagine serving God anywhere else.
Our Sunday services are going great! I love being able to gather in person with you and worship, learn, and serve. It is such a joy and the highlight of my week. I know many of you are still not able to attend in person, and that is totally fine. I hope you are still joining us online and worshiping with us in that way.
For those of you who are attending in person, I want to remind you to please wear your mask as you are entering and exiting the building. Also, wear it when you are moving through the Market and the hallways. No matter what you think about wearing masks, we have an obligation as children of God to be considerate of others. If wearing a mask helps put others at ease during this crazy time, let’s do that.
Keep in mind that the state health department still says that a mask should be worn when you can’t maintain 6 feet of distance. That is why I am standing outside the building before and after our services. I am not wearing a mask because we are outside, and I am keeping my distance. If you cannot maintain that distance while moving through the building, please wear a mask.
I also want to ask you to pray about how you are worshipping God by giving financially. While we are not in any trouble financially at this point, our giving has decreased over the past two months. If you are a member of Midtowne Church, I want to encourage you to be obedient to God’s command to give as He leads you.
You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” 2 Corinthians 9:7 NLT
I do not know who gives or who does not give. I don’t want to know. I am not going to tell you how much to give. That is between you and God. But I do want to stress that we have a mandate from God to worship Him by giving. SO if you are not giving, please pray about what God wants you to give and be obedient. If you have stopped giving, please pray and ask God to show you what He wants you to give and be obedient. If you are giving, Thank You! Please continue to be obedient to Him and enjoy the blessings He gives to His faithful, obedient children. You can go online and set up a recurring gift to make sure you stay up to date on your giving. If you need any assistance with that, please contact the office and someone will assist you.
Also, don’t forget to give to our land fund. Our monthly payment is $15,000. We bring in just barely enough to cover that each month. We also have architect fees that we are paying out of that fund. If you are not already giving to this fund, please pray about how God wants you to participate in helping us pay off our land so that we can take steps toward building our new building in order to help more people Find and Experience God’s Best!
It’s the Holiday Season, and my favorite forgotten holiday is coming up next week – Thanksgiving! I say forgotten holiday because many people have already moved on to Christmas. We tend to overlook this holiday, and I think that is a huge mistake. Because of that, I want to invite you to be sure and join me this Sunday for our Thanksgiving Celebration, either in person at 9:00 am or 10:30 am or on Facebook Live at 10:30 am. We are going to learn how to Experience God’s Best during a Pandemic Thanksgiving. It is possible to Give Thanks even when Life Stanks! I know that is poor grammar, but it is great theology! So don’t miss this Sunday and be sure to invite someone to join you.
Christmas will be here before you know it, and we are getting ready for our big Christmas Celebration too. You will hear more about it soon, so stay tuned.
Let me encourage you with this. I know our attendance is down, and I know that these are trying times for all of us. But I want you to know that we are not measuring our ministry’s success or failure by the number of people who attend. It’s not about how many people are in the building; it’s about how many people are Finding and Experiencing God’s Best. I LOVE hearing stories of how God is working in the lives of others. I LOVE reading the Praise Report and the Personal So What each week. I know God is still working in spite of the awkwardness and craziness of this pandemic, and I thank Him and praise Him for that.
With that in mind, I want to ask you to please fill out the Connection Card each week either in person or online. For right now, that is about the only way we are able to hear how God is working in your life. You can also send me an email, text, or call me anytime and let me know how God is helping you Find and Experience His Best in your life. I would love to hear from you and praise God with you. And as always, if there is anything we can do for you, please let us know.
I love you guys, and I am grateful to be able to serve you. Thank you for your faithful obedience to our God and your prayerful support and encouragement.
See you Sunday!
